Girls swimmer of year

Notable: Named 4A state swimmer of the meet at the state championships.
Quotable: "It is fun to swim for your high school," Denninghoff said. ". . . I am going to train as hard as I can and make new goals and see where it takes me."
Boys co-swimmers of year
Who: Herbie Behm, junior at Catalina Foothills; Tyler Kybartas, senior at Sabino
What Behm did: Set the Class 4A state record in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle at this year's state championships.
WWhat Kybartas did: Won state titles in the 100 back and 100 fly.
Behm notable: Moved to Arizona from Santa Fe, N.M., this year. This was his first season competing in the Arizona championships.
Kybartas notable: Dropped nearly two seconds from his 2006 time in the 100 back and dropped three seconds in the 100 fly from 2006.
Behm quotable: "I'm still training hard. I think I have a lot better shot next year to break (Scottsdale Chaparral's) Adam Small's record (in the 50 free)," Behm said, referring to Small breaking the mark set by Gary Hall Jr. in 1994.
"It seems easier now that it has been broken because Hall did it so long ago. So many people came so close to it and (it) seemed like it was almost impossible."
Kybartas quotable: "I've worked really hard at practice every day and working on my underwater kicks and I feel they have gotten better," Kybartas said. "To place that high with six swimmers (in the team meet) is really great. I was really surprised and was thinking that if we got third it would be a pretty solid finish."
